The Great Depression: The Main Ingredient
There was a high unemployment rate which resulted in many angry workers. Hitler, like Roosevelt, provided jobs to help boost the economy.
"The main plank in the National Socialist program is to abolish the liberalistic concept of the individual and the Marxist concept of humanity and to substitute for them the folk community, rooted in the soil and bound together by the bond of its common blood." - Adolf Hitler
Brownshirts
They were essentially Hitler's Henchmen and were used through the late 20's and early 30's to harass opposition parties unmercifully. They were led by Ernst Rohm, and after Hitler was elected in 1933 many Brownshirts were appointed auxiliary police.
The Burning of Reichstag
In February of 1933 a Dutch Communist was convicted of Burning of the Reichstag. However, Hitler and the Brownshirts then used this to bully people into passing the enabling act.
Enabling Act:
Agreed to by the Reichstag in 1933 under threats from the brownshirts. Only 93 Social Democrats voted against it and Hitler barely won, this then allowed Hitler to pass laws without consulting the Reichstag. This was essentially the birth of Hitler.
